A YORK FESTIVAL COMMISSION  |  WORLD PREMIERE

The River’s Alchemy: a cross-cultural dialogue in verse by Marion Kickett and John Kinsella.

Two cultures. Two worldviews. Two strong voices. One vision. In this special commission by The York Festival, Ballardong Noongar woman Marion Kickett and Wheatbelt poet John Kinsella sing land and river as they honour Country and the river that gives it life.

Performance immediately followed by panel discussion led by York Festival Artistic Director Will Yeoman.

Dr Marion Kickett is a Noongar woman from the Ballardong language group. Born in the Wheatbelt town of York, Marion spent her early years living on the York Reserve. She left York to further her education, completing two bachelor’s degrees, one with Honours. Marion completed her PhD at the University of Western Australia.

John Kinsella is the author of over forty books. His many awards include the Australian Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry, the Victorian Premier’s Award for Poetry, the John Bray Award for Poetry, the Judith Wright Calanthe Award for Poetry and the Western Australian Premier’s Award for Poetry (three times).
